Heavy Rotation

Thought I'd give a quick post detailing what I'm listening to these days on my Ipod. I have eclectic music tastes, so you might find something you've never heard of that you love. But listen at your own risk...

1. Upside Down by Jack Johnson - Catchy tune from the Curious George Soundtrack
2. Get Him Back by Fiona Apple - Classic Fiona Apple from her new album
3. Crystal Village by Pete Yorn - Great song by an underrated artist
4. Fool on the Hill by The Beatles - The greatest band ever, I've found new appreciation for this one lately.
5. Zebra by The John Butler Trio - Very unique sound, a refreshing change.
6. Looking at the world from the bottom of a well by Mike Doughty - Former Soul Coughing lead man now solo
7. Papa Dukie & The Mud People by The Subdudes - Funky local band with a unique style
8. Flake by Jack Johnson - Song off his one of his older albums but a great song nonetheless
9. Perfect Situation by Weezer - Another great Weezer song.
10. Soul Meets Body by Death Cab for Cutie - I didn't want to like this song but I can't deny it any longer

Fiona Apple needs medical attention

Sarah, Jill and I took in the Coldplay/Fiona Apple show last night at the Pepsi Center. Overall a dy-no-mite show. Coldplay really sounds better live than recorded, and its a much edgier concert than you would expect. The live version of Politik is incredibly impressive. Set list was well chosen and included Jill's favorite "Till Kingdom Come" (a Johnny Cash tribute) which they then followed up with "Ring of Fire". Of course they played all the big hits such as "Clocks", "Trouble", "Yellow", "The Scientist", "In My Place", etc.

And Fiona Apple....
Let me say that I am a big Fiona Apple fan. I've been a fan of her music for many years, and really like her latest album. But she should not dance. Ever. She looked like she was convulsing on the stage. She sounded great at times, but then at times she tried to put too much emotion into her songs and it just came across shrill. When she sat at the piano and played, she really was impressive. As far as opening acts go, she's one of the best I've seen but she really should never ever ever ever try to dance.

Here is my one pic from last night, shot with my 640x480 camera phone (why can't Tmobile carry the 1.3mp Razr?) during Yellow where these huge balloons filled with confetti dropped from the ceiling.

My Top 5 TV Shows

With the advent of Tivo, I allow more TV into my life since I can be so much more efficient about it. Here are my current top 5 shows that I watch.

1. Lost - Great concept for a show, full of mystery, twists & turns
2. The Office - The more I watch it, the funnier it gets. Micheal Scott is my hero.
3. Scrubs - Very suprised at how consistently funny this show has been.
4. The Amazing Race (non-family crap) - New season starting soon!
5. Survivor - Still intrigued by the human interaction and scheming.

Of course there is also college basketball, the Olympics and Seinfeld re-reruns too.....

Big Ski Day

Big day on the mountain. Sarah & I skied nonstop from 8:30 till 2pm yesterday at Winter Park. We ended up getting in just over 40 miles traveled, nearly 20k ft of vertical drop and I managed to hit a crazy top speed of 52 mph. Yikes.

Link to the MotionBased stats from our day.

Here is a pic from my camera phone at 12,000 feet atop the Timberline bowl area.

RMNP Day

We had a Rocky Mountain Park outing today. We did some sledding with all the kids on the sled hill, saw some animals, hiked and tried to snowshoe (not enough snow really). We saw hundreds of elk basking in the sun, 3 coyotes and a big group of mule deer enjoying some lunch. Chilly temps and a wind with some bite, but overall a pretty nice, completely empty day at RMNP.

Finally some snow

Finally saw some accumulating snow on the Front Range, although only a couple inches. Got the Yeti out and spun around the neighborhood, then decided to break out my fisheye lens. Its been neglected since our Utah trip, so I'm going to use it for a couple weeks so expect some crazy, distorted looking fisheye shots in the coming weeks.

Found this collage option in Picasa (a tool I'm trying out for Bloggin) and decided to make a mini-collage from our Utah trip last Fall.
Trying out Picasa & Hello for Blogging tools and ran across this pic from our Utah trip last fall. We saw some amazing places, can't wait to go back again soon.

I won the lottery!

Woohoo! Jill always tries to get me to buy Powerball tickets, and I never do. One time when the jackpot was over $300 million, we bought two tickets ($1 each). Of course we didn't hit anything even remotely close. Well the jackpot yesterday was somewhere around $185 million and I decided I'd play. I took $20 in and bought 10 tickets with the Powerplay option ($1 per ticket). It was an interesting experience. I didn't know what to do and had to have the clerk assist me. Then I made the mistake of trying to pay via credit card (I pay for everything on a credit card as I never carry cash). Oops. Cash Only....

So I hit the ATM and get my ticket. Last night the numbers come up and one of my 10 entries has the right Powerball. Now I'm rolling in the cash. I do a quick scan and see not only did I hit the right Powerball number, but I hit 1 of the other 5 numbers correctly. At this point I start dreaming of my new house in the mountains....

Check my big winnings....I wonder if they'll just pay me in installments or what.....Let's see here Powerball + 1 number pays out....$16! Heck yeah, I won the lottery baby! And I only lost $4 total! Its a fun experiment and we'll likely just cash in our $16 prize and get 8 more numbers for the next drawing since no one won the $185 million.

Now to pick out my new car I'll buy when I hit my next big lottery payout....

Bike or Ski? Yes.

Last night, almost 16 miles of night riding in Boulder. This morning, about a foot of powder at Winter Park. Tomorrow, perhaps another bike ride as temps are supposed to be in the mid-50s. The legs will undoubtedly be shot by end of day Saturday, but should be a great run.
